Filipinos are everywhere in the world. Almost all overseas filipino workers decided to work abroad basically to find a greener pasture for their families. Others were simply fortunate enough to have reasons other than working for their family.
Why do many OFWs stay long abroad even though they already have enough savings to do a business at their home country? While many are persevering hardships just to provide food for their families, some are simply accustomed to working far from their families that many fathers had no enough time to be a part in the growing years of their children. As long as they can send a regular money to support their families' daily needs and the schooling of their children, some fathers seems to enjoy more being away from their loved ones, rather than being with the family at home.
Materialism, narcissism, high ambition, concerns about societal status, and having new love relationship with another person are just some of the major reasons why many Ofws are still working abroad.
These egoistic values are consciously and subconsciously learned and are deliberately adapted by most people. The pressure of the society to go with the trends and fashions and the pressure to be in a certain economic level among friends are just some of the factors that enslaved the minds of every individual to acquire wealth more and more.
But what is being greatly affected, as expected, by this kind of value system is the family that should be a functional unit of a society. Life is not always making money, but also about making life. When is enough is enough? Or humans simply are just becoming greedy more and more.
